The following was sent out from The New York Times’ Joe Kahn, Marc Lacey and Carolyn Ryan:

Jon Galinsky

Sometimes the newsroom is so laser focused on the here and now that it can lose some attention on what is coming next month or next year. That’s where Jon Galinsky, who has guided our strategy and budget, comes in. Jon keeps a constant eye on the newsroom’s biggest opportunities and challenges, and we’re delighted to announce that we’re expanding his role to include oversight of newsroom operations and promoting Jon on the masthead to assistant managing editor.

Whether it’s helping navigate the ever-ongoing transition to digital, set goals for our journalism, or operate more effectively and cohesively, Jon and his team have become trusted advisers to all of us in newsroom leadership.

Jon has also overseen and shaped a period of significant investment in our newsroom, with the addition of hundreds of staff members and new resources to support our coverage and pursue priorities including Live, visual journalism, international expansion, war coverage and much more.

Jon joined the newsroom in 2013 as part of the team that produced the Innovation Report, and he became a founding member of Newsroom Strategy. He first joined The Times in 2011 as part of a business-side strategy group focused on digital product, subscription and ad strategy.

Jon’s portfolio is overflowing but please stop him as he makes his way around the newsroom to share your congratulations — and your thoughts for the future of The Times.
