Joe Kahn, who was appointed executive editor of The New York Times, sent out the following excerpt:
Rebecca Blumenstein will become deputy managing editor for global talent and operations, leading the newsroom’s efforts to recruit, develop and retain the world’s best journalists; foster our culture; and manage our complex domestic and international operations.
Sam Dolnick will join the senior masthead in a role focused on advancing and elevating the way our journalists report and tell stories across the wide array of formats at our disposal.
Steve Duenes will continue to oversee visual journalism, with a focus on shaping future formats and a report defined by visual journalism as much as by traditional articles, and to set the standard for multimedia storytelling excellence across the industry.
Cliff Levy will focus on ensuring the independence and integrity of our journalism while expanding his purview beyond Standards to serve as a champion and leader for editors and the craft of editing across the newsroom.
Cliff’s wide ranging interests and abilities have led him on an extraordinary career path at The Times. He’s served as Metro editor, Moscow bureau chief, an investigative reporter, a domestic correspondent and head of our digital News Desk, where he oversaw The Times’s approach to digital platforms.
It is difficult to imagine our newsroom without Rebecca’s leadership, generosity of spirit and sheer energy in tackling the most intractable problems. Before she joined The Times, she was the deputy editor in chief at The Wall Street Journal. Previously, she held roles as China bureau chief, where she led a team that won the Pulitzer Prize for International Reporting in 2007, Page One editor, managing editor of WSJ.com and international editor.
Sam’s leadership and vision have been at the core of our reimagination of what Times journalism looks, sounds and feels like. Prior to The Times, Sam worked for The Associated Press as a foreign correspondent in New Delhi and a reporter in New York.
Since Steve took over the Graphics desk in 2004, he has prioritized digital excellence. Steve began his career at The Flint Journal in Michigan, before moving onto the graphics department and nascent web staff at The Chicago Tribune.
