The New York Times’s mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world is made stronger by a workforce that represents the world it covers. As The Times works towards building a more diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace for all employees, it is dedicated to creating an environment where women can do their best work and advance in their careers.
In 2020, The Times Company prioritized inclusive hiring practices, as well as mentorship and sponsorship programs to provide both networking opportunities and leadership skill development.
- The Times promotes fairness in its hiring practices by using a technology application to help teams write job descriptions that are inclusive to candidates of every background, requiring decision makers, interview panelists and people managers to attend Unconscious Bias and Inclusive Team and other diversity, equity and inclusion trainings, and insisting on diversity candidate slates for job openings.
- The Times Company sponsors 11 companywide employee resource groups, and its technology department hosts three employee community groups, including Women in Tech, Diversity in Digital and Black and Latinx in Technology. A 2020 buddy program by its Women in Tech group also offers networking opportunities and assistance in developing leadership skills.
- The Company offers generous parental leave and has recently addressed Covid-19 challenges with reimbursement for work from home needs and expanded financial support for dependent care and tutoring costs.
