Niela Orr

The New York Times Magazine editor in chief Jake Silverstein sent out the following:

We’re thrilled to announce that Niela Orr will be joining the magazine as a story editor. Niela comes to us from Pop-Up Magazine, the events series, where she has been working as a story producer; before that, she was at The Believer for three and a half years, most recently as the deputy editor.

You might also know Niela’s byline as a writer, for outlets including the London Review of Books, The Baffler, Harper’s Bazaar and our own magazine, which recently published her splendid profile of the playwright Michael R. Jackson; next week we’ll be closing another piece she’s written, about the “Nope” star Keke Palmer. A proud Philadelphian, Niela has a B.A. from Temple University, and also an M.F.A. in writing from Cal Arts. Niela’s first day will be August 1 — please join us in welcoming her!
