NY Times introduces new podcast “Sway” with Swisher

The New York Times debuts “Sway,” a new interview podcast hosted by Kara Swisher, “Silicon Valley’s most feared and well-liked journalist,” according to New York magazine.

Swisher will be covering Washington, Hollywood, and the world, investigating power.

In her debut podcast, Swisher will bring listeners smart, substantive, in-depth, and revealing conversations with fascinating people, exposing how power and influence really work in America and globally.

Twice a week, she will interview a person in power.

“I wanted to bring my interview podcast to The Times because in this twitchy and tense world, it is time for really substantive discussions about our future and about how to hold the powerful to account and shed light on those voices who are powerful in fresh and new ways,” said Swisher.

Paula Szuchman, managing producer, The New York Times Opinion Audio, added:

“Times audiences are expecting us to meet them where they are, and one way we can connect with them is via their earbuds. The Opinion section is building on that promise with more audio-first journalism and I’m incredibly excited to be leading that effort. Kara was the perfect choice to anchor our newest show. She’s brilliant, opinionated and relentless. ‘Sway’ is going to be all those things, too, and we can’t wait for listeners to find out.”

The first episode will be available on Monday, September 21. You can listen to the trailer and subscribe now at nytimes.com/sway, on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts.

New episodes will be out every Monday and Thursday.

Apart from her podcast role, Swisher is a contributing Opinion writer. She has also worked in tech as a reporter, co-founding The Wall Street Journal’s “All Things Digital” and, later, “Recode,” which was sold to Vox Media in 2015.

Swisher’s journalism focuses on change and changemakers and is also an editor-at-large of New York Media and executive producer of the Code Conference.
