Expanding our traditional weather coverage, Your Places: Extreme Weather is a new offering from The Times that provides a long-range look at locations most important to you, whether it’s where you reside or the locations of friends and loved ones.

When forecasters see a risk of tornadoes, hail, high winds or excessive rain for any of the places you care about in the next three days, newsletter subscribers will receive a morning email to help them plan ahead and to prepare for extreme weather. Pulling public data from the National Weather Service, The Times’s weather team will categorize the severity risk by yellow, orange and red signifiers, with red as the most severe.

Unlike other newsletters that arrive in email inboxes daily or weekly, Your Places: Extreme Weather will only be sent when there’s a noteworthy level of risk in one of your locations in the coming three- day period. By compiling accurate and predictive information, the newsletter informs readers about extreme weather happening that day, the following day and the day after.

You can sign up using your New York Times account and don’t need to be a paid subscriber. Readers can add up to four locations across the contiguous United States.

The newsletter will also provide a link to our Extreme Weather dashboard, which outlines the saved locations along with useful maps and the latest weather news.
