NY Times debuts “The Amplifier”

The following excerpt was sent out from The New York Times:

To help readers better navigate the vast offerings from today’s music industry — and to hear from a real person with a signature sense of taste —The New York Times is introducing a new subscriber-only newsletter, “The Amplifier.”

Twice a week starting Tuesday, March 21, Lindsay Zoladz, pop music critic at The Times, will send unpredictably eclectic playlists and introduce subscribers to new and old music. “The Amplifier” is geared toward readers who feel overwhelmed by the amount of music at their fingertips.

“All too often, we let the algorithm take over, but I want “The Amplifier” to bring the human touch back to music discovery,” said Zoladz. “I want readers to consider each installment a mixtape from your most music-obsessed friend.”

Caryn Ganz, pop music editor at The Times, explains “We wanted to introduce a different approach: a trusted critic, with a wealth of knowledge and a taste for many genres, sharing her recommendations and own journeys of discovery and rediscovery in a more personal environment — your inbox.”

The first send of “The Amplifier” was shared on March 21. Once Times readers sign up, they will get it every Tuesday and Friday as part of their subscription.
