NY Times appoints Kaplan domestic policy editor

Thomas Kaplan

Thomas Kaplan, Washington’s weekend editor on Saturday at The New York Times, will take on the role of domestic policy editor in Washington. Kaplan will edit the portfolio and oversee the domestic policy and health care coverage.

An excerpt from the announcement reads:

“He is superbly qualified for the job. Before becoming our Saturday editor, when he ran the bureau for half the weekend and oversaw the bulldog close, he covered politics and government for The Times for more than a decade, writing extensively about policy issues in Washington, on the campaign trail and in Albany. He covered the 2016 and 2020 presidential campaigns, and was a congressional correspondent during the Trump presidency. On Capitol Hill, he covered the 2017 Republican tax overhaul and battles over federal spending. He also wrote frequently about health care, and worked closely with Robert Pear to cover the unsuccessful effort by Republicans to repeal the Affordable Care Act.”

Kaplan graduated from Yale University.

Be sure to congratulate Kaplan on Twitter.
