Alexandra Garcia has been named deputy editor for Opinion video at The New York Times.
An excerpt from the announcement reads:
“Alexandra will oversee the editorial vision and strategy of Op-Docs, which she will manage. In addition, she will oversee production operations and shape submissions from outside filmmakers.
“She will work closely with Christine Kecher, our senior commissioning editor, who will continue her leadership in editorial curation, as well as partnerships, fundraising, and festivals, and Yvonne Ashley Kouadjo, our Op-Docs series producer. She will also closely collaborate with Jonah Kessel, the other deputy editor in Opinion Video.”
Garcia has been with the Times for the past 10 years, first joining in the video department. There, she worked on award-winning short film, explanatory video and interactive projects. She also helped launch the “The Weekly.”
She also served as director/producer on the Times’ documentary series “The New York Times Presents,” where she made films on various topics, including culture and international news.
As per the Times:
“Her work has been honored with three news and documentary Emmy awards and over a dozen Emmy nominations, as well as in the Edward R. Murrow, National Press Photographers Association’s Best of Photojournalism, World Press Photo and Pictures of the Year International contests.”
She has also worked as a video journalist at The Washington Post.
