The New York Times has tapped Karoun Demirjian to serve as a congressional correspondent in the Washington bureau. She begins on Jan. 9.
Demirjian joins the Times after almost a decade at The Washington Post, where she started in the Moscow bureau. Also at the Post, she covered the national security beat on Capitol Hill. Recently, she served as a Pentagon correspondent.
She was part of The Post team that won the 2022 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service and was also part of the paper’s team that shared the 2018 Pulitzer for National Reporting with the Times.
She was a Washington correspondent at the Las Vegas Sun and reported for The Associated Press, Congressional Quarterly and the Chicago Tribune. She also worked at NPR.
Demirjian graduated from Harvard University and has a master’s degree from the Fletcher School at Tufts University, which recently recognized her with their annual Women’s Leadership Award.
