NY Times announces two promotions in culture and lifestyle

The New York Times has promoted Melissa Kirsch to deputy editor, Culture and Lifestyle and Farah Miller as deputy editor for strategy and operations.

Melissa Kirsch

As per the Times:

“[Kirsch] will lead editorial meetings and advise desk heads on all matters of tone, style and standards. She will also work closely with them to package and shape stories and projects, and act as their point person in matters of editorial need.”

Recently, Kirsch served as the assistant editor. She will also continue to write the Saturday edition of The Morning newsletter. Prior to the Times, she was the editor in chief of Lifehacker at Gizmodo Media Group. She freelanced for New York Magazine.

Kirsch has a B.A. from the University of Virginia and a M.A. from New York University.

Farah Miller

Recently, Miller was an editorial director of Well. Before that, she served as director of content strategy for NYT Parenting.

Before joining the Times in December 2018, she worked at Facebook as managing editor for Instagram and then as content strategy manager, video.

She spent more than three years in various roles at The Huffington Post, including executive editor for HuffPost Family & Relationships. She also worked at Hearst Digital and Condé Nast.

Miller graduated from Lehigh University in Pennsylvania.
