The New York Times has promoted Alexandra Leigh Young to deputy producer of The Daily. In her new role, she will play a key role in making assignments, running the calendar, and training producers.
She has been with The Times since 2016, joining as a producer at The Daily and most recently serving as senior producer, The Daily. She was also an associate producer at Radiolab and an executive producer and casting director at Explosion Robinson.
Young has also worked as a production and tour manager at The Production Partnership and as a concerts manager at SUPERB Productions.
Young holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and theater production from the University of California, Berkeley.
Paige Cowett has been promoted to deputy editor of The Daily. Previously, she was senior audio producer/supervising editor.
In her new role, she will help strengthen relationships with desks across the newsroom, set The Daily’s editorial priorities and work closely with producers to develop story ideas.
Prior to joining The Times, Cowett was with WNYC Radio for 9 years, joining as a producer and then serving as an assistant producer, before becoming an associate producer. She was also a fellow at Hunter College.
She was also a research analyst at Strategic Actions for a Just Economy.
Cowett is a B.A. in comparative literature from the University of California, Berkeley and a M.A. in urban studies from the University of California, Los Angeles.
