The following excerpt announcement was sent out from The New York Times editor, Opinion Kathleen Kingsbury:
Meeta Agrawal will join Opinion as its Special Projects editor. Meeta joined The Times in 2018, as the editor of Arts & Leisure. During her tenure, she redesigned the flagship Sunday section to be digital forward, a visual pleasure and — not least — the home of the Culture desk’s most ambitious storytelling.
Prior to joining The Times, Meeta was the deputy editor of Entertainment Weekly, where she guided the digital and print coverage, led the live event strategy, produced TV series and specials, and helped develop the magazine’s audio offerings.
In Opinion, Meeta will be playing a key leadership role, reporting to Patrick Healy. She will be charged with leading our biggest projects, working closely on our long-form text pieces and with our colleagues in design, video, audio, graphics and audience. For now, Max Strasser, Alicia Wittmeyer and our incoming Sunday Review editor — we are interviewing candidates now — will fill out Meeta’s team. Lora Kelley will support the team as its editorial assistant.
Meeta, a native of Louisiana, holds degrees from Dartmouth College and the University of Oxford.
Courtney Stein joins Opinion Audio as a senior producer with the development team.
Courtney spent over a decade at WNYC’s Radio Rookies, making radio documentaries with young reporters about their lives.
Before working in radio, Courtney started a youth-run restaurant in Minneapolis.
Please join me in congratulating them.
