The following excerpt announcement was sent out by The New York Times editor – opinion Kathleen Kingsbury, director and executive producer – opinion video Adam Ellick, and managing producer – opinion audio Paula Szuchman:
Emily Holzknecht first joined us in late 2019 as a temporary staffer, and we’re delighted to announce that she has been promoted to a staff role as associate video producer. She oversees our publishing process on-site and off-platform, liaises with the copy and audience teams, monitors comments, provides frontline defense on footage clearances, fact-checks videos, and is the archival video researcher.
During remote work, she engineered hard drive handoffs and footage transfers from around the world, and kept us afloat by touching literally every video we have published. Before joining Times Opinion, Emily was an assistant at Magnum Photos’ Paris office and worked with the video team at Money.com.
We are excited to welcome Kirk Semple to Opinion Video for a temporary assignment as a reporter/producer as he ends a five-year tour as a foreign correspondent based in Mexico City, covering Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean for The New York Times. He will channel his reporting and writing into working closely with our video editors and producers to enhance our journalism, which seeks to combine original reporting with innovative opinionated storytelling.
Since joining The Times in 2003, Kirk has held various reporting positions on the Metro, National and International desks.
We are thrilled to announce that Kristin Lin is joining the Opinion Audio team as an editorial assistant on Monday, April 26. In her new role, Kristin will help support the daily fact-checking and audience needs of “The Argument,” “Sway” and “The Ezra Klein Show.”
Kristin joined The Times as part of the 2020-21 fellowship class.
Prior to the fellowship, she was an editor at The On Being Project, which produces the Peabody Award-winning podcast “On Being with Krista Tippett,” and helped launch their weekly newsletter, “The Pause.”
Please join us in congratulating and welcoming Emily, Kirk and Kristin.
