Rebecca Thomas will be joining as a senior staff editor. She joined The Times in 2020 as an editor on the flex desk, working across various departments, including food, politics, business, Washington, sports and many a live briefing. She has also worked at MTV News, where she held various roles, including deputy managing editor. Thomas will join the culture desk at the end of February.
Rachel Sherman has been appointed senior news assistant for culture. She joins from graphics, where she helped track the spread of the pandemic. She was also part of the data team that won the 2021 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service. Prior to The Times, she was a reporting fellow for Coda Story, a global and digital publication.
She has also worked freelance and is a graduate of the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY.
