The following was sent out from The New York Times digital news design editor Andrew Kueneman:
After a wide search, we found that our next graphics/multimedia editor for special projects was right under our nose — or on our screen. As a 2021–22 Times Digital News Design fellow, Alice Fang impressed us with her editorial design and development work on projects like 52 Places for a Changed World and How It Feels to Be Asian in Today’s America. Alice graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in 2021 where she majored in communication design, with a minor in professional writing. She was a research assistant at the Learning Media Design Center, where she designed a mobile field guide for identifying insects and worked on other citizen science projects.
Leo Dominguez is a designer, developer and photographer living in Brooklyn, N.Y. He joins the digital news design team as a graphics/multimedia editor. Leo began his career in 2017 at The Washington Post where he was a news designer/journalist and, before that, a software engineer. He worked on projects ranging from the first database of slaveholding members of Congress to TikTokers who quit their jobs. Leo graduated from the University of Virginia in 2019 with a B.S. in computer science.
Shannon Lin returns to The Times as a graphics/multimedia editor focused on Styles. Shannon joins us from Netflix where she was designing for Tudum. She impressed us at The Times as digital news design’s first fellow in 2019, where she worked across the newsroom to design and produce visual interactive features for Culture, Food, Styles and many other desks. She also helped illustrate a few pieces and assisted with promotional motion graphics. After her fellowship, she worked with our magazine to design and develop several digital projects and then spent time at The Atlantic as an experimental storytelling designer. Prior to her first stint at The Times, Shannon was a Kleiner Perkins fellow, working with Silicon Valley companies. She graduated from Carnegie Mellon School of Design in 2019.
Congratulations and welcome, all.
