NY state newspaper sports editor Chavez departs

Bob Chavez

Bob Chavez, a sports editor at Gannett-owned The Daily Messenger in Canandaigua, New York, has left after more than eight years.

He wrote on Twitter:

“Today is my final day at The Daily Messenger. This was my choice. Saying ‘thank you’ is hardly sufficient to all the athletes, coaches, admins & parents over the years who have allowed me share their stories. But I say it anyway with gratitude & humility.”

Previously, Chavez worked at The Daily Messenger from August 1992 to October 1996. From 1996 to December 2014, he worked as a sports copy editor/writer at Democrat and Chronicle.

Chavez graduated from Messiah University in Pennsylvania.
