NPR has tapped Arnie Seipel as deputy Washington editor, a role he has been serving in an acting capacity for the past few months, and Deepa Shivaram as Washington desk reporter.
In his new role, Seipel will mostly step away from daily editing and take on a planning role. He will also be working closely with Muthoni Muturi, the executive editor of the NPR Politics Podcast.
Seipel has been with NPR for more than 13 years, previously holding the posts of administrative coordinator, production and editorial assistant, assistant producer on the elections desk, editor of Morning Edition, deputy political editor and supervising political editor.
He was also an intern at CBS News.
Shivaram recently served as a digital reporter at NPR. Before that, she was at NBC News, where she has held various roles, including associate producer for Meet the Press and MTP Daily, 2020 campaign embed and political reporter.
Shivaram has also worked at BBC News and was previously an intern at NBC News.
Shivaram graduated from George Washington University.
