The following was sent out from Media Moves:
News director Samuel Belilty has exited Univision 23 Miami and is no longer with the company.
General manager Claudia Puig notified station staff of his departure yesterday.
A company spokesperson issued the following statement:
“We are grateful for the contributions, expertise, and commitment that Samuel Belilty brought to our news division over the course of his career at Univision. On behalf of TelevisaUnivision, we wish him the best in his future endeavors.”
Belilty did not respond to a request for comment about his future plans.
Belilty oversaw the news department at the Miami station since 2017, transferring from the same role at Univision 23 Dallas.
According to the company, Puig “will helm the search for a new VP of News.” In the meantime, Chris Peña, SVP of Local Media News and East Region Content Lead Christine Portela “will support Assistant News Director Miguel Fernandez and the newsroom during the transition.”
Belilty joined Univision Fresno in 1999, starting as creative service director, before moving to the news director position. Eight years later, he moved to Texas for the top news management role at the San Antonio station before taking over the news department in Dallas.
Belilty previously worked in his native Venezuela at Radio Caracas Television.
