New York Magazine promotes two

The New York Magazine has tapped Genevieve Smith to serve as executive editor and Gazelle Emami to serve as editorial director.

Smith has been with the magazine for 11 years, joining in December 2012 as senior editor. Later on, she was upped to editor-at-large and then features director.

Before joining the New York Magazine, she was an associate editor at Harper’s Bazaar, where she worked for more than four years. Before that, she served as a research editor at Condé Nast.

Smith has a B.A. from the University of Virginia.

Gazelle Emami

Before taking on the role of editorial director, Emami held the post of culture editor. She has been with the magazine for more than eight years, previously serving as senior editor and then deputy editor for Vulture.

She also held the posts of front page assistant, associate blog editor, culture editor and deputy features editor at The Huffington Post. There, she also served as managing editor of Huffington Magazine.

Emami has a B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley.
