New roles for Ake and McCrudden at AP

The Associated Press has named director of photography David Ake assistant managing editor. He retains both roles. Ake has been with the AP for 15 years and has also served as deputy chief of bureau for visual journalism.

Derl McCrudden, deputy managing editor, will now focus on video and audio, including emerging opportunities in streaming markets.

He has been with the AP for more than 10 years, joining as head of newsgathering, AP Television news, and then serving as head of international video news before becoming deputy managing editor – visual and digital journalism.

He was also a journalist and consultant at ITN Consulting and has also worked at CNBC Asia. He was also bureau chief/executive producer at Al Jazeera English, and a program and news editor at ITN. He was also a newsroom journalist at Scottish Television.
