NBC News taps Klein as DC senior director of newsgathering

Stacey Klein

NBC News DC bureau chief Ken Strickland sent the following internal memo on Wednesday:

I am pleased to announce that Stacey Klein has been promoted to Washington Senior Director of Newsgathering. Stacey is uniquely qualified to lead our coverage during what promises to be a pivotal time in Washington politics with the new administration.

For the past nine years, Stacey has served as Senior White House Producer and Director, demonstrating an exceptional understanding of the demands required to serve all News Group platforms. She has consistently delivered, earning the respect of her colleagues and leadership alike. Most recently, she served as the lead Capitol Hill pool producer for two major events: President Jimmy Carter’s funeral and the inauguration of President Donald Trump.

Throughout her career, Stacey has proven to be an outstanding leader, fostering a culture of collaboration, clear communication, high standards, and compassion.

Stacey’s journey in this bureau mirrors the paths of many who got their start in Washington. She started as a desk assistant in 2009, went on to serve as Tom Costello’s researcher, and later became a bureau associate producer. She joined the White House team as a producer, where she covered the presidencies of Presidents Obama, Trump, and Biden.

The Washington assignment desk is the heart of our bureau, and its managers, editors, and producers are the best in the business. Together, we’ve delivered award-winning coverage of countless historic events, and I am confident that under Stacey’s leadership, this team will continue to achieve even greater success.

Please join me in congratulating Stacey. She starts her new role February 24.
