Exciting news: Jon Schuppe has been promoted to senior reporter on the Enterprise team. In his 14 years at NBC, Jon has reported some of our most memorable and impactful investigations and has been a standout colleague.
Jon excels at developing sensitive sources, a skill that led to two powerful co-reported series on unclaimed bodies taken without loved ones’ consent. “Lost Rites” and “Dealing the Dead” brought closure to countless families, halted abusive practices and drove lasting change. The series, which included partnerships with “Nightly News,” won a Polk Award, a duPont Award, a Murrow Award and the Shadid Award for Journalism Ethics, among others.
Last year, Jon exposed the horrific conditions faced by incarcerated pregnant women in “Jailed and Pregnant,” an investigation in collaboration with Bloomberg Law and NBC News’ Digital Documentary team. The harrowing reporting had a swift impact, including federal and state legislation.
Jon also hops on planes or hits the phones when big news breaks, quickly and creatively landing unique accountability angles on widely covered events, from hurricanes and wildfires to the Baltimore bridge collapse and the release of the Epstein files. And he is a supportive colleague, always game to offer advice on a difficult interview or how to find a phone number for a key source.
