Ken Strickland, NBC News’ Washington bureau chief, sent out the following internal memo announcing its White House and Capitol Hill teams:
All,
As we prepare for the next administration and all the changes that come with it, I’d like to share a few updates about our White House and Capitol Hill teams.
Peter Alexander will continue to serve as Chief White House Correspondent, leading our coverage of the incoming Trump administration. Peter’s headline-making exchanges with Presidents Biden and Trump have driven multiple news cycles, and his exclusive interviews and field reporting distinguish him as a top journalist on this critical beat.
Garrett Haake will join the team as Senior White House Correspondent. This new assignment follows his four years covering Capitol Hill and the past two-plus years covering President-elect Trump. His dogged reporting has earned NBC News impressive scoops, most recently an exclusive phone interview with the president-elect.
I’m also pleased to share that Yamiche Alcindor and Vaughn Hillyard will serve as White House Correspondents following a busy year breaking news on the campaign trail. They, too, have deep experience covering Trump and will be valuable assets to our reporting on the incoming administration. Vaughn has covered the President-elect for well over two years and Yamiche has covered him during his first presidential term.
Rounding out our esteemed White House team are Kelly O’Donnell and Gabe Gutierrez, who continue their roles as Senior White House Correspondents, and Monica Alba and Aaron Gilchrist, who remain White House Correspondents.
Leading coverage of the Trump administration on Digital are Peter Nicholas, Senior White House Reporter, and Katherine Doyle, White House Reporter. Henry Gomez, Matt Dixon and Jon Allen, who have closely covered President-elect Trump and Vice President-elect Vance throughout the campaign cycle, will take on additional responsibilities covering the new administration.
Over on Capitol Hill, Ryan Nobles will take on a bigger role as Chief Capitol Hill Correspondent. Since joining NBC News in 2022, Ryan has delivered critical reporting on a historic congress – from the removal of a Speaker, multiple government funding fights and the GOP attempt to impeach President Biden. He secured exclusive access on a congressional trip to Taiwan, reporting live from Taipei, and led our network coverage on all things Hunter Biden.
Scott Wong, Senior Congressional Reporter, and Sahil Kapur, Senior National Political Reporter, will continue to lead coverage of Capitol Hill on Digital. Julie Tsirkin, an integral member of the Capitol Hill team since 2019, remains Capitol Hill Correspondent covering the new Congress.
Please join me in congratulating those taking on new roles and all for their excellent reporting.
Ken
