NPR has appointed Collin Campbell as its new podcast chief. The move comes as NPR aims to stabilize itself.

Campbell said:

“People who are looking for news and information on topics are just facing a really confusing mix.

“You can’t sort between the output of a group of journalists that have the goods and have the boots on the ground, and a bunch of people [simply] talking about it. We have to really look at ways to stand out and show what we do and how we do it.”

Recently, Campbell served as executive editor for new show development at Gimlet Media. Before that, he held the post of executive producer for original content development at Audible.

He also held the posts of managing editor for broadcast, and managing director for audio content and strategy for LAist at Southern California Public Radio. He worked at WNYC Radio for more than six years and freelanced for the Houston Chronicle, NPR News, WNYC and Marketplace.

He also worked as a news editor at the San Francisco Chronicle.

Campbell has a B.A. in English from the University of California, Berkeley and an M.S. in journalism from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
