Medium staff members have announced that they are forming a union with the Communications Workers of America (CWA) Local 9410. As per the union, more than 70 percent of eligible employees have signed cards in support.
Currently, the Medium union represents 140 workers across editorial, engineering, design, and product.
For now, the union is asking Medium to voluntarily recognize the union. If not, the union can force recognition through the National Labor Relations Board as long as a majority of employees vote in favor of unionization.
“We’re creating infrastructure for workers at Medium to have their voices strengthened and amplified by each other, much like the way writers use Medium to amplify their words and ideas,” its website reads.
