The Marshall Project, the Pulitzer-winning nonprofit media organization covering criminal justice, has just announced the hiring of Dave Mann as a Senior Editor.
Mann joins The Marshall Project from APM Reports in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he served as a senior editor and led teams of reporters on investigative projects, digital storytelling and audio reporting for American Public Media’s investigative reporting unit.
Mann will work closely with fellow senior editors Manuel Torres and Leslie Eaton to help The Marshall Project produce more of its signature investigations into police, courts and prisons. Mann will also help the newsroom expand its capacity to take on freelance projects.
In his time at APM, Mann served as an editor on the award-winning “In the Dark” podcast. The show’s second season won a 2018 George Polk Award, a 2019 Peabody Award, and a 2020 duPont-Columbia Award.
As features director at Texas Monthly, Mann oversaw editing and production of the magazine’s narrative features for its print and digital versions, managed editors and freelance writers, and forged partnerships with other media outlets. Mann also previously served as the editor-in-chief of the Texas Observer, where he edited three stories that were National Magazine Award finalists.
Mann is based in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he lives with his partner and two daughters.
