Traci Schweikert, chief talent officer at Politico, sent out the following note to staff:
Dear POLITICOs,
I am delighted to announce that Joe Levin-Manning (he/him/his) is joining POLITICO today as a Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). Joe will oversee the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion strategy and engagement for POLITICO. In his role, Joe will partner with the executive team, managers and employees to ensure POLITICO’s talent practices align to and support our publication’s mission while creating conditions to fulfill and align with POLITICO’s values. He will identify ways for employees to connect and create a greater sense of belonging for all POLITICOs.
In his new role, Joe will report to me and will be a member of our Talent leadership team.
For the next six weeks, Joe will meet with leaders and employees to better understand DEI at POLITICO. He will also dive into our current DEI practices and metrics. Please look out for opportunities to connect with Joe in the next few weeks.
Joe Levin-Manning has a background in leadership development, diversity and inclusion and human resources. He has a Master’s in Human Resource Management from Georgetown University, a Master’s in Business Administration with a focus in Organization Leadership and Development from the University of Maryland, and a BA in Political Science with a minor in Music from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Joe has a strong passion for diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility, striving to bring together communities, and inspiring others to live their most authentic lives. In the US and abroad, he has presented to a variety of forums on topics such as intersectionality, inclusion best practices, and community engagement. He has consulted with organizations helping them to build and implement strategies around international expansion, DEI engagement, and other nonprofit management practices.
An active participant in the DC community, Joseph founded Capital Qvellers, a gender inclusive group that organizes programs, events, and leadership retreats for LGBTQ Jewish young professionals in the DMV. He volunteers with Write Away, a nonprofit focused on increasing digital literacy among grade 6-12 students, and volunteers with several other organizations that promote equity and inclusion for others.
When he isn’t working or volunteering he also performs with the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington DC and their small ensemble called Seasons of Love (last year making their NFL debut). Look for him hosting dinner and board games or jet-setting somewhere around the world!
