LA Times names Merida executive editor

Kevin Merida

Veteran journalist Kevin Merida has left ESPN to join the Los Angeles Times as its executive editor.

In his new role, Merida will transform the newspaper into a digital powerhouse that thrives for decades to come. He succeeds Norman Pearlstine, who stepped down in December.

Merida previously served as senior vice president and editor-in-chief of ESPN’s The Undefeated. He was also at The Washington Post for more than 22 years, joining as a congressional correspondent/national political writer.

He has also served as style section feature writer, post magazine columnist, associate editor, national editor and managing editor. He was also a reporter and editor at The Dallas Morning News for 10 years.

Merida holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Boston University.
