The Los Angeles Times has tapped Stephanie Chavez as deputy metro editor for education. Previously, she was an education editor at the Times.
Chavez is an award-winning journalist who has been with the Times since 1992. She was an education reporter from 1992 to 1995 and from 1995 till 2000 she served as deputy city editor, metro. She then became a general assignment reporter, metro.
From 2004 to 2009 she was California weekend editor and was then promoted to the post of national assignment and web editor. From 2016 till 2019 she served as director of communications and marketing before holding her most recent post of education editor.
In addition, she has also worked at Yahoo, Lewiston Tribune and Finger Lakes Times.
Chavez is a graduate of the University of Southern California.
