The Los Angeles Times has named Kimbriell Kelly its next Washington bureau chief.
Her new role begins Nov. 4.
In her new role, Kelly will succeed David Lauter who will take on a new role as the Times’ senior Washington correspondent.
Kelly joined the Times in Washington as deputy editor for enterprise and investigations. Since then, she has edited the immigration coverage that led to the bureau’s first Pulitzer Prize in 17 years.
Previously, Kelly was at The Washington Post working as an investigative reporter. Before that, she was with The Chicago Reporter for more than 8 years, joining as a McCormick Tribune fellow in urban affairs.
She then became a reporter at the company and later on held the posts of editor and then publisher and editor.
She has also worked as a staff writer at The Daily Herald.
Kelly is a M.S. in journalism from Boston University.
