Kornfield joins Washington Post general assignment desk

Meryl Kornfield

Meryl Kornfield has joined the general assignment news desk at The Washington Post covering breaking news and writing enterprise stories.

Kornfield came to the Post last year as a reporter on the investigative desk through the American University Investigative Workshop.

Apart from the Post, Kornfield has worked as a Capitol correspondent at WUFT-FM News and was editor-in-chief of The Independent Florida Alligator, where she led a staff of 40 students in a digital-first newsroom and developed plans for news coverage in print and online, among other tasks.

Previously, she also held other posts at the paper, including staff writer, crime reporter, metro editor and then beats editor.

She was also editor-in-chief of PRISM: UF Honors Magazine and a design editor for Prism Student Honors Magazine.

In addition, she has also interned at Investigative Reporting Workshop, Sun Sentinel Media Group, The Palm Beach Post and The Gainesville Sun.

Kornfield holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from University of Florida.
