NPR’s President and CEO, John Lansing, has promoted Nik Khilnani to senior vice president of Product and Audience Technology. In this expanded role, Khilnani will oversee the Product, Design and Audience Technology teams, drive the roadmap and development of audience products, station tools and engineering initiatives, and join NPR’s executive committee. Khilnani was most recently NPR’s vice president of Audience Technology and vice president of Engineering.
“I am honored and excited to step into the role of senior vice president of Product and Audience Technology at NPR,” said Khilnani. “In this rapidly evolving digital landscape, it’s crucial that we continue to innovate and adapt our Product, Design and Technology strategies to meet the needs of NPR and Member Stations across the country. In partnership with Member Stations, I look forward to leading our talented teams towards expanding our reach while maintaining NPR’s commitment to quality journalism.”
Khilnani and his team are responsible for developing and supporting a suite of world-class digital products and systems used within NPR and across the public media digital ecosystem. The product, design and audience technology teams help NPR anticipate and serve the changing needs of a new generation of audio listeners and news consumers, and play a leading role in creating and executing a technical strategy to grow the business.
Khilnani has over 20 years of experience in technical leadership, vision and executive leadership, including engineering and media executive roles. These positions include VP of Engineering at Lurn, Inc., senior director of Platform Engineering at the Walt Disney Company, and digital roles at National Geographic Partners and Gannett Digital.
He earned his bachelor’s in computer science from the State University of New York at Buffalo and his MBA in marketing and product development from the University of Maryland — Robert H. Smith School of Business.
