Jones joins NY Times as a meteorologist, reporter

Judson Jones

The New York Times has tapped Judson Jones to serve as a meteorologist and reporter on the Weather Data team. Jones joins from CNN, where he worked for more than 14 years.

There, he served as a freelance producer for the CNN International Content Unit, freelance weather producer, and recently as a digital weather producer/meteorologist.

He worked freelance for The Weather Channel, where he reporter, shot and packaged cinematic stories in the field for broadcast and digital platforms.

An excerpt from the Times’ announcement reads:

“At The Times, Judson will help guide our audience through all weather phenomena — including hurricanes, severe storms, droughts, heat waves and the day-to-day weather that affects our lives — on a variety of platforms. Judson will work with other members of the weather data team to collect, analyze, forecast and visualize real-time and historic weather data, as well as contribute to weather coverage across the newsroom. During weather events, he’ll prepare forecasts and write for our live blogs, as well as collaborate with graphics editors on visual displays of forecast data. He’ll also pursue enterprise stories to illuminate weather trends, dissect extreme-weather events and explain weather concepts to readers.”

Jones has a B.S. in journalism from the University of Central Arkansas.
