HuffPost has named Danielle Belton its new editor-in-chief.
Belton starts on Apr. 12 and will be reporting to Mark Schoofs, editor-in-chief of BuzzFeed News. She will be based in New York.
Belton joins from The Root where she had been for more than 6 years, joining as an associate editor, and then serving as a managing editor, before holding the post of editor-in-chief. She is also the creator/editor of the award-winning pop culture-meets-politics blog, The Black Snob.
She has also worked as a senior digital media strategist at Advancement Project and was editor-at-large at Clutch Magazine Online.
Belton has also written for The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Daily Beast, Essence Magazine, The Guardian, The American Prospect and many others. She was also a writer at Mad Cow Productions.
She has also served as a writer/managing editor at TheLoop21.com. Belton was also a blogger and online campaign manager for non-profits New Security Action and Win Without War.
Belton was also a senior associate/independent contractor at v-Fluence Interactive Public Relations. She was also a staff writer/columnist at The Bakersfield Californian and was an assistant lifestyle editor/assistant city editor/staff writer at Midland Reporter-Telegram.
She has also worked as an account manager/copy-writer at Creativworks LLC.
Belton is also a sought-after public speaker and a winner of several accolades. She was also honored in May 2019 with the Rita Henley Jensen Award by Women’s eNews and was named among the top 40 black stars in media by Rolling Out Magazine in 2016.
Belton is a B.A. in journalism and English from Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville.
