Fishman makes it to board of America’s Newspapers

America’s Newspapers Organization, the industry’s largest advocates for newspapers, has welcomed R. Michael Fishman, editor and publisher of the Citizen Tribune, to its Board of Directors.

“It’s an honor to be chosen to represent community newspapers,” Fishman said. “The newspaper industry has been, and will continue to be, a vital part of the American fabric and this organization will be at the forefront of helping newspapers succeed in the coming years.

America’s Newspapers is formed from two of the oldest press associations; the Inland Press Association and Southern Newspaper Publishers Association.

“Newspaper journalism provides a voice for the voiceless, challenges elected officials, shines a light on government, calls for change when change is needed, and exposes corruption and injustice,” said Chris Reen, the president and publisher of The Gazette in Colorado Springs who will serve as the first president of America’s Newspapers.

“I’m honored to be among these leaders of our industry and excited to be part of the good work that will be done on behalf of more than 1,500 American newspapers spread across the country.”

Along with a new name and logo, the organization launched the website newspapers.org, and social media outreach on Facebook, LinkedIn and @NewspaperOrg on Twitter.
