Houston Chronicle appoints Scott editor

Kelly Ann Scott

The Houston Chronicle has appointed Kelly Ann Scott editor. She will begin on Oct. 23. Commenting on her new role, she said:

“I’m honored to be joining this talented team of journalists at the Houston Chronicle. I can’t wait to build on their legacy of deep, meaningful journalism and to innovate toward our future. “This is a consequential time for Houston and Texas — and our work matters more now than ever in America. I am eager to dive in.”

Scott will join from AL.com, where she served as editor-in-chief and VP of content.

Under her leadership, AL.com won the 2023 Pulitzer Prize in local reporting and commentary.

Her team also won the 2022 George Polk Award for local reporting and the 2023 Hillman Prize. Staffers were also named a 2021 Pulitzer finalist in commentary, national Emmy award nominees and regional Emmy award winners.

She joined Gannett | USA Today Network in 1999 as a reporter.

During her more than decade tenure there, she held the posts of assistant city editor, breaking-news news editor, breaking news and investigative editor, senior editor for news – investigations and business, executive editor and state director for Nevada, Utah and Guam, and site leader.

She also reported for Forum Communications, and taught at the University of Nevada, Reno, and St. Cloud State University in Minnesota.

Scott has degrees from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and St. Cloud State University in Minnesota.
