The Metro Courier, a weekly paper in Augusta, Ga., has appointed Michael Meyers as publisher. He still serves as director of business development and public relations for Gold Cross EMS.

An excerpt from the announcement reads:

The Metro Courier Newspaper was founded by Barbara Gordon in 1983.  Gordon started the paper as an alternative to the Augusta Chronicle newspaper.  According to a news release, Gordon’s “vision was to create a weekly outlet that provided news affecting Blacks in this community.”  The Courier highlights church and family events, as well as other community news and information.

After 40 years, Gordon is handing the reigns to Meyers, a longtime local media and news professional who provides columns to The Augusta Press and serves as a political and community expert on WFXG FOX54.  FOX54 looks forward to extending our partnership with Meyers and the Courier.  Meyers said in a release, “I’m looking forward to working with and partnering with WFXG to be an additional source of news and information.”
