Former USA Today EIC Carroll joins Arizona State University

Nicole Carroll has joined Arizona State University as executive director and professor of practice.

In her new role, Carroll will lead a new startup to develop content strategies, product innovations and new business models to help local news operations thrive.

Recently, she served as editor in chief of USA Today. Before that, she worked at The Arizona Republic for more than 18 years.

There, she held various posts, including breaking news editor, metro editor, features editor, planning/Sunday editor, deputy managing editor and executive editor.

She also served as editor and VP, news.

Carroll has a bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University and a master’s degree from Georgetown University.
