The New York Times has hired Bora Erden as a graphics editor.

Erden will work in the Graphics department with technologies, including machine learning and AI, to do “advanced mapping, 3-D modeling and programmatic image analysis for visualizations in breaking news and investigative projects,” as per the Times.

Recently, he was a senior researcher and technical lead at SITU, an architecture group that specializes in investigative reconstruction. He also developed a video management system for an investigation with PBS’s “Frontline” and The Associated Press.
