Rod Beard, assistant sports editor at The Detroit News, has taken on the role of sports editor. He wrote on X/Twitter:
“It’s been a long journey — which technically started as a paperboy for The News in the early 1980s. I’m truly blessed to get this opportunity and for those who have helped me get here.”
Beard joined in December 2001 as a sports writer. Since then, he has held the posts of general assignment sports writer, Michigan basketball beat writer and Pistons beat writer.
Beard graduated from the University of Michigan.
