The Louisville Courier Journal has appointed Mississippi native and Gannett veteran Mary Irby-Jones as its top editor.
Irby-Jones succeeds editor Rick Green and will begin her new role on March 15.
Previously, she was a top editor at the Gannet-owned Clarion Ledger and Hattiesburg American.
Irby-Jones says:
“The Courier Journal has a long, well-deserved reputation of producing compelling and award-winning journalism. I am excited to build upon its groundbreaking work and for the opportunity to engage with the Louisville community.”
She further added that it will be an “honor” to become executive editor of the news organization, which has earned 11 Pulitzer Prizes, including one for breaking news in 2020.
Katrice Hardy, Midwest regional editor for Gannett, said Irby-Jones has been “a strategic and transformational leader throughout her career.”
