CNN appoints Marquardt chief national security correspondent

Alex Marquardt

CNN has promoted Alex Marquardt to chief national security correspondent for CNN Worldwide, based in Washington, D.C.

Marquardt joined the network in May 2017 as senior national security correspondent, and has helped lead domestic and international breaking news coverage. Previously, he worked at CNN from November 2007 to January 2009 as an embed reporter.

After departing CNN in 2009, he joined ABC News, where he worked for more than seven years. There, he covered uprisings, revolutions and wars across the Middle East. During his time there, he reported from Moscow, Jerusalem, Beirut and London.

He has also worked as an anchor at digital content provider Channel One News, and NBC News.

Marquardt has won Emmy, Edward R. Murrow and Gracie awards, and is a graduate of Georgetown University.
