Ciprian-Matthews appointed president of CBS News

Ingrid Ciprian-Matthews has been promoted to the top job at CBS News.

The award-winning journalist and veteran news executive was named president of CBS News and will now have editorial oversight of the network’s news division, all CBS News programs, bureaus, global newsgathering, streaming and digital editorial, as well as standards and practices, special events, politics, elections and surveys, social, the race and culture unit and CBS News Radio.

Until this appointment, she was EVP of newsgathering for CBS News since 2021.

Ciprian-Matthews has had a distinguished career spanning more than three decades at CBS News, during which she has held several senior editorial positions with increasing responsibilities in the U.S. and abroad.

Among her many roles, she oversaw presidential election coverage as Washington bureau chief and international news as Deputy Bureau Chief for CBS News in London. She has also held top leadership positions as EVP of strategic professional development, SVP of news administration (2015-2018) and VP of news (2011-2015).

Her extensive hands-on news gathering experience includes roles as CBS News’ foreign editor (2006-2011), senior broadcast producer for the CBS Evening News(2004-2006) and senior broadcast producer for CBS News’ morning broadcasts from 1994-1998, among others.

She joined CBS News in 1993 as a senior producer for live segments for the morning news.

Prior to CBS News, she worked for CNN as managing editor of the cable news network’s New York bureau (1990-1993) and a field producer, assignment manager and assignment editor for CNN (1984-1990).
