The Chicago Sun-Times has hired Alex Rodriguez as a politics and government editor. Commenting on his new role, he said:

“I’m very much looking forward to this new challenge. At the core of journalism in Chicago, Illinois, and D.C. is government and politics. Holding politicians accountable for their actions and decisions, and government for how it spends taxpayer money, is a hallmark of Sun-Times journalism. I’m eager to be part of a team that has done that so well for so many years.”

Rodriguez joins from the Chicago Tribune, where he has been a member of the editorial board.

Previously, he worked at the Chicago Tribune from 1994 to 2009 as a general assignment reporter and then as Moscow bureau chief. He then left to join the Los Angeles Times to work as Islamabad bureau chief, covering Pakistan. He left the Times in 2013 to rejoin the Chicago Tribune, where he held the posts of foreign editor, global connections editor and nation/world editor.

Rodriguez graduated from Western Illinois University.
