Chicago Reader appoints Lieberman CEO and publisher

Solomon Lieberman

The Chicago Reader has named Solomon Lieberman CEO and publisher. Lieberman “will serve in the position for the Reader Institute for Community Journalism, which operates the alternative newspaper,” reports chicagobusiness.com.

In his new role, Lieberman succeeds Tracy Baim, who announced her retirement plans last summer. Lieberman will begin in mid-February.

Previously, Lieberman was the founding executive editor of the Institute for Political Innovation, a Chicago think tank that advocates for nonpartisan election reform.

From July 2016 to July 2019, he served as VP of strategy at Better Government Association. Before that, he worked at the company from August 2010 to April 2012 as a web editor.

He was co-founder and creative director of ChicagoSide, an online magazine covering city sports and culture, which shuttered in 2014.

Lieberman has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a master’s degree from Northwestern’s Medill School of Journalism.

You can congratulate Lieberman on Twitter.
