Chalkbeat education reporter Peña departs

Mauricio Peña, an education reporter at Chalkbeat, has left. His tweet reads:

“I’m taking time to reset and recharge before deciding on my next adventure(s). Thank you to all the parents, students, and educators who shared their stories with me over the past year and a half.”

Previously, Peña was a news reporter at Block Club Chicago NFP. He served as a digital editor at Chicago Magazine and as an immigration and equality reporter at the Desert Sun Media Group.

He was also a general assignment reporter at DNAinfo.

Peña has a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Los Angeles and a master’s degree from Northwestern University, where he wrote for Medill News Service.
