Steve Futterman, a correspondent at CBS News, tweeted:

“Some personal news today. And it is not good. I was informed yesterday that I am being laid off at @CBSNews. My last official day is tomorrow. Obviously I am greatly disappointed. I have been with CBS News for nearly 25 years. It has been my dream job.

“I have loved it and have poured everything I have into it. But sadly the current harsh economic realities at media companies result in something like this. Many of my colleagues have gone through this. I now join them.

“So that’s the bad news. Now the good news. What a wonderful ride it has been! I have been fortunate to have one of the best jobs in the business – being sent to cover so many major stories around the world.

“Will I miss it? You bet!!! I don’t know anyone who ever loved their job more than I did. But I am not packing it in quite yet and plan to be around for some more of this and continue to report.”

Futterman joined CBS News in 1998.
