BuzzFeed’s Twitter morning show to close operations

Twitter has pulled funding for BuzzFeed’s weekday morning show, “AM to PM,” reports Variety.

“After several high-level conversations, Twitter informed us that due to the impact of coronavirus on the business, they can no longer fund ‘AM to DM’ or the new programming initiative we’d planned with them in the near term,” BuzzFeed head of studio Cindy Vanegas-Gesuale wrote. “Unfortunately, BuzzFeed cannot support these shows without the investment from Twitter, so we have no choice but to suspend production on both before the end of April.”

As a result of the morning news and pop-culture show shutting down, the last working day for the staff will be Aril 28.

A Twitter spokesperson said in a statement, “We will continue to partner with BuzzFeed on the other content collaborations we have around the world, and explore new ways to bring compelling video content to people on Twitter.”

Although no significant comment could be obtained from BuzzFeed, Vanegas-Gesuale did add that they “will be working overtime to revive our partnership with Twitter, and we hope with as much of the current team as possible.”
