NBC’S Boston O&O WBTS has hired Matt Prichard as NBC10 Boston political reporter. Prichard, an award-winning journalist who has been covering news and politics for more than a decade, will begin his new role on Monday, Aug. 7.

“I’ve known Matt for several years. He brings political coverage to life in his approach and presentation, said Kirsten Wolff, WBTS vice president of news, Telemundo Boston and NECN. “NBC 10 is dedicated to covering area politics — that’s why we are the only Boston station with a full-time political reporter and Matt will be a great one. We are thrilled to welcome him to our family.”

The station said in his new role, Prichard “will cover the diverse and ground-breaking political scene throughout New England and beyond. He will also use his breadth of experience as a national political correspondent to be an overall strategic resource to our expanding newsroom.”

Prichard comes to Boston from KUSI San Diego where he was a weekend anchor and weekday reporter. Prior to that, he was the national correspondent for 30 Hearst television stations throughout the country, producing 20-50 live shots per day. Prichard graduated from Chapman University in Orange, Calif., before pursuing his journalism career.
